Other approaches to treatment

As alternative medicine and self-care move into the mainstream, the use of readily available medicinal herbs, dietary supplements, and vitamins is becoming more widespread. In addition to surgery and medications, couples often wonder about other treatment approaches, which can include:

  • acupuncture
  • herbal supplements
  • organic foods

The limited data available now appears promising, but it is too soon to tell the role that these other treatments can play.

It's important to remember, too, that some herbal supplements may actually interfere with fertility, as they can disrupt hormone levels. Your doctor or fertility specialist can help you determine which supplemental therapies may be appropriate for you, so bring in a list of those you're currently taking on your first appointment.

If you have any questions, talk to your doctor or fertility specialist.
